Process

How a project gets off the ground.

Five phases with clear steps and no surprises. You'll always know what's happening, what's next, and what I need from you.

01 Pre-flight

Discovery

We start with a conversation about your business, your customers, and what a successful website would do for you.

What happens

  • A call or in-person meeting
  • A look at your current site, if you have one
  • A look at competitors and what your customers search for
  • A written proposal with scope, timeline, and quote

What I need from you

  • About 30 to 45 minutes to talk
  • Logins for any existing website
  • A few websites you like, and a few you don't
02 Flight plan

Design & structure

Before anything is built, we agree on how the site is organized and how it will look.

What happens

  • A site map and page outlines
  • Designs for the homepage and key pages
  • Revisions based on your feedback
  • Your sign-off before building starts

What I need from you

  • Your logo and brand colors, or we create them together
  • Honest feedback on the designs
  • Text and photos, or time to plan them with me
03 Rigging

Build

I build the approved design in WordPress, Webflow, Wix, or Shopify with a private preview link you can check along the way.

What happens

  • A responsive build for phones, tablets, and desktops
  • Contact and quote forms
  • Speed, security, and search basics
  • Your content loaded and formatted

What I need from you

  • Final text and photos
  • A review of the preview site
04 Takeoff

Launch

When everything checks out, we go live.

What happens

  • Testing across browsers and devices
  • Connecting your domain and hosting
  • Analytics and Google Search Console setup
  • A walkthrough of how to edit your site

What I need from you

  • Access to your domain registrar and host
  • A final thumbs-up
05 Cruising altitude

Ongoing support

Launch is the start of the relationship. I stay on as your designer and your website person whenever you need me.

What happens

  • Updates, new pages, and seasonal changes
  • Business cards, flyers, and signage
  • Email campaigns and social graphics
  • A direct line to the person who built your site

What I need from you

  • A quick email or call when you need something

Questions

The fine print, in plain English.

Contracts, revisions, ownership, and who does what.

Do I get a written contract, and what does it cover?

Yes. The contract defines the project scope, the payment milestones, intellectual property ownership, and how disputes are resolved.

What happens if the scope changes mid-project?

Any addition is quoted separately as an add-on. You are never charged more without your express approval.

How many rounds of revisions are included?

Three rounds are included: two after the design stage to settle the look and structure, and a third after the build for a final pass.

What if I'm slow to send content or feedback? Does the timeline slip?

Yes. During scoping we set due dates for your feedback and for any content or design files assigned to you, and the schedule depends on those dates being met.

Do you write the website copy, or do I?

There are three options: you write and I edit, I write it, or I bring in a third-party copywriter for professional writing. If you aren't sure what each page needs to say, I help you plan it.

Do I need to provide photos, or do you work with photographers?

I'm not a photographer, but I can edit and clean up any images you have. I also have access to a large library of stock images and graphics, and I can create new graphics for the project. I help you decide which photos will do the most work.

Do I own my website, domain, and content when the project is done?

Yes. Your domain is always registered in your name, your content stays yours, and any custom code or design assets I create for the project belong to you.

Can I take my site to another developer or host later?

Yes. You can take a copy of the website files, the platform accounts, and anything else I made for the project.

Do you set up my domain and hosting, or do I buy them? Who pays for them?

I can help with setup, but the domain and hosting (if your platform needs it) are in your name and paid for by you. When the website is finished, you hold all the keys.

Will I have admin access to my own site?

Yes. You have admin access on whatever platform we build on.
